Federal Jurisdiction
Last modified: 02 March 2009
The federal Parliament has exclusive legislative authority over banks and the business of banking, as set out in the Constitution Act, 1867. The CBA works with its members to analyze, assess and make recommendations on provincial legislative initiatives that may impact on bank activities that are subject to this exclusive federal authority. In addition, the CBA will take such other action as may be necessary to protect and enhance the exclusive federal jurisdiction over banks and banking.
